What is Reiki?
Reiki is a laying on of hands treatment that utilizes Reiki energy to treat the body and the human energy field. Reiki is a Japanese word which essentially means "spiritually guided life force energy". Reiki is a particular frequency of Ki energy with healing properties. A typical Reiki session takes approximately an hour during which the client lies on a massage table fully clothed and often covered by a sheet or light blanket. Reiki practitioners allow the Reiki energy to flow through their hands to various parts of the client's body and energy field. Usually the body is treated from front to back with particular attention given to the areas of complaint. By bringing the body and human energy field into balance, Reiki promotes deep relaxation, stress reduction and holistic healing.
What is a session like?
A Reiki session is a wonderful experience that is different every time depending on clients needs. Reiki can be done in person or you can schedule a distance session. Reiki is gentle and non invasive, and its administered with a light touch through clothing. Sage is burned in the beginning of the session to clear and prepare sacred space. Stones and crystals are also used to help bring balance, healing, and vitality to our bodies. Because it is guided by the energy itself and not the practitioner, the recipients system can use the healing energy in the most positive way. Generally, areas in our body or energy field are awakened cleared , and strengthened. Often this results in deep relaxation, or may induce a needed emotional release. Sometimes clients feel heat, energy movement, or experience dream like images or colors. After a session most people feel extremely relaxed and balanced.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Reiki can be used for general wellness as well as for specific issues. Reiki works by assisting to reduce stress, which in turn may create an environment within your body where healing may be more easily facilitated.During these times of stress when we are often overextended with our job and family obligations, Reiki can be integrated into your life as a self care tool to energize and vitalize us when we are healthy; but also as a prevention tool for the negative somatic manifestations caused by stress. In my practice I have had great results with clients and problems related to excess tension build up and chronic pain (such as arthritis), as well as with people who suffer from chronic headaches, insomnia and problems of fatigue. I have also had great results with women at all stages of pregnancy as well as children of all ages. In summary, Reiki is good for everyone!
Reiki is not meant to diagnose illnesses and not to be used as a substitute for medical treatment. Reiki is sometimes used as an adjunct to certain medical conditions on the recommendation of a physician or other health care provider, (e.g. high blood pressure, anxiety, or stress.) I have also had positive results with reduction of negative side effects of medication regimes for clients with chronic health conditions (Cancer/HIV).
